Substitute Teachers

The Nova Scotia Teachers Union (NSTU) has a Provincial Substitute Committee that meets three to four times a year. The committee includes representatives from across the province who come together to discuss and address issues and concerns that directly affect substitute teachers.

The NSTU has developed a handbook specifically for substitute teachers who are new to the profession. This resource provides an overview of the role and responsibilities of substitute teachers, outlines what is expected of them, and offers practical tips for success. Topics include getting organized, preparing for classroom assignments, and keeping students engaged in the learning process.
